Annual FNSA Powwow

Below is the 2024 details. Please check back closer to our next event for 2025 details. Join us on Saturday, April 12, for the 2025 University of Kansas First Nations Student Association Powwow!

Registration

  • There is no registration fee
  • Opens at 10:00am and closes at 1:00pm
  • Registration is in person at the powwow grounds

12:00 PM and 6:00 PM 


2024 Head Staff Categories

  • Head Man Dancer - Tyrin Lasley- Meskwaki/ Dakota - Tama, IA Head
  • Lady Dancer - Tamo Thomas, Potawatomi/Kickapoo, Mayetta, KS
  • Master of Ceremonies - Manny King, Northern Cheyenne / Navajo
  • Arena Director – Jeremy Shield, Crow
  • Host Drum - Sharpshooter
  • Color Guard - Haskell Color Guard

2024 Categories

The committee reserves the right to combine categories if a dance category has less than 4 registered dancers.

Combined categories will be announced at 1:15 pm.

  • Tiny Tots: Day Money
  • Junior Boys & Girls (7-12): Grass, Traditional, Fancy, Jingle: 1st $75, 2nd $50, 3rd $25
  • Teen Boys & Girls (13-17): Grass, Traditional, Fancy, Jingle: 1st $125, 2nd $75, 3rd $50
  • Ladies & Men (18+): Grass, Traditional, Fancy, Jingle: 1st $250, 2nd $150, 3rd $125
  • Golden Age Ladies &Men (50+): Grass,Traditional, Fancy, Jingle: 1st $250, 2nd $150, 3rd $125

2024 Specials

  • Graduation Special, Honoring Matilda Anderson - Womens Jingle Dance Special
  • Head Man Dancer - Men's Grass Dance Special
  • Head Woman Dancer - All female categories combined - 3 places and 3 consolations
  • Committee Dance Specials - TBD

Powwow Grounds

  • Our powwow will take place on the new KU Powwow Grounds at the Lied Center. Similar to last year, we recommend bringing lawn chairs.
